We are trying to eliminate reasons why the kitchen sensor keeps setting the burglar alarm off. What are some of the possible reasons a sensor would give off a false alarm while you are at home ?

Please do not say its the wiring under my wooden floor ! :) Thanks for your help

May be in your kitchen have a lot of high current equipment. This will make your power unstable, and will trigger your burglar alarm.

You don’t say what type of sensor is causing the problem, some intruder alarms are coupled with smoke and heat sensors, or p.i.r.’s. If your intruder alarm is purely a burgular system, then when it is not “armed” then the problem can only be the tamper switch cauisng the problem. this could be due to either an ill fitted unit or switch fault or because you say it is in a kitchen, it could be due to moisture. If you have smoke or heat sensors fitted to the system then they may be still moisture or dust contamination.

As the system would not be armed I would be looking at the anti-tamper cct
you could also try changing the kitchen cct in the control box to eliminate that. If there a no spare zones you can swap two and see if the fault remains on the kitchen zone or shifts to the swapped zone

It’s probably the wiring under your wooden floor.

hi i don’t think the cable under the floor will be a problem, well not with an alarm let me explain. when you set the alarm it would sound straight way, or constantly sound. if there was a fault with that cable. also if you have pets eliminate them form the room. the other main cause which i come across is because the kitchen usually has a big window, the sun light and the heat can damage the PIR also the heat from the cooker etc.. i have had to change the PIR for a different type/ model that can cope. hope it helps

other than that people are trying to get in.
